🔒 Runs entirely in your browser with GDAL WebAssembly — the same PROJ engine used by QGIS, PostGIS, and ArcGIS. Nothing is uploaded. Output units: metre.

Worked example — the centre of this system's area of use: 4.625, 54.665 (EPSG:4326 lon, lat) = 3,974,432.43, 3,519,463.69 (EPSG:3035).

EPSG:3035 is ETRS89-extended / LAEA Europe — the Lambert Azimuthal Equal-Area projection the EU mandates for pan-European statistical mapping and analysis. Because it preserves area, it is the correct choice for computing areas, densities, and grids that span multiple European countries.

Eurostat GISCO grids (the standard 1 km / 100 m European grids), CORINE land cover, and most EU environmental datasets are delivered in 3035. It is an analysis CRS, not a navigation one: angles and local shapes are slightly distorted away from the projection centre (52°N, 10°E).

Frequently asked questions

When should I use EPSG:3035 instead of a UTM zone?

Use 3035 whenever your analysis spans more than one UTM zone of Europe and involves areas or densities — land cover statistics, population grids, country comparisons. Use a UTM/ETRS89 zone (25832, 25833…) for local, single-region work where distance accuracy matters more.

Why do my EPSG:3035 coordinates look nothing like UTM values?

The false origin differs: 3035 puts X = 4,321,000, Y = 3,210,000 at 52°N 10°E. Typical European coordinates run 2.5–6.5 million on both axes. Values in that range with a European extent are a strong hint the data is LAEA Europe.
