About Natural Earth
Natural Earth is a free, public domain map dataset produced by volunteers and supported by the North American Cartographic Information Society (NACIS). It is the most widely used source of small-scale vector data for world and continental maps, and is the default dataset in many GIS applications and mapping libraries.
All datasets are available at three scales — 1:10m (most detailed), 1:50m (medium), and 1:110m (schematic) — though not every layer is available at all three scales.
