Download Place Name Data
Search and download location data by country and feature type. Export as CSV, GeoJSON, Shapefile, KML, and more. Powered by GeoNames.
All results are point locations (lat/lng coordinates). These are not polygon or line geometries — for boundary polygons try our administrative boundaries tool, and for river or coastline lines try Natural Earth.
Download by Country
Select a country below to get mountain pass data pre-loaded and ready to download.
About This Tool
Download named mountain pass and col locations as point data for any country. Sort by elevation to surface the highest passes first. Coverage is exceptional in the Swiss and Austrian Alps, French Alps and Pyrenees, Himalayan regions of Nepal and India, the Andes (Chile, Peru, Argentina), the Rocky Mountains, and the Slovenian Alps. Useful for route planning, cycling, trekking, historical geography, and topographic cartography.
Point Data — What That Means
Each pass is a single point at the saddle — a latitude/longitude coordinate with name, elevation, and region. These are not road lines, crossing polygons, or route networks. Elevation values (in metres) come from SRTM data via GeoNames.
